Nicole Matthews

Board of Education

" Nikki is running for a position on the Hebron Board of Education in order to ensure that our district continues to provide a well-balanced education in an environment that is equitable and inclusive of all of our children."

Nicole Matthews is a lifelong resident of Connecticut. Nikki and her husband John moved to Hebron in 2017, along with their two young children and a small menagerie of pets.  Nikki and her family chose Hebron for its combination of rural setting and community feel. She strongly values education and is a firm believer that young people need a solid foundation from which to build their character and sense of self.

She is heartened that her children will have access to Hebron schools’ dedicated teachers and thoughtful curriculum.  Nikki has a dynamic, commonsense approach to leadership and is excited to join a committed team to make Hebron’s youngest citizens feel valued, safe, and confident.

Nikki’s introduction to civil service was as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in her hometown of Morris, which sparked a love of emergency medical services and led to a career as a paramedic in 2002.  As a Middlesex Paramedic, she has been serving Middlesex County and its surrounding towns, including mutual aid to Hebron, for the past 13 years. Notably, she responded to national emergencies following the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina.

Nikki holds a BS from UConn and an MBA from the University of New Haven. She is a dedicated volunteer activist in the community, leading a local gun violence prevention group and assisting local and federal campaigns with phone banking, postcard writing, and canvassing.  Nikki is an avid baker, reader, and gardener with a keen interest in pollinator habitat and conservation.  She enjoys running and has completed two marathons and multiple 5Ks.  Among her proudest athletic achievements were completing Tough Mudder and Spartan Beast long distance obstacle races.
